Satisfy Cravings With These Healthy Snack Ideas

healthy and satisfying snacks ideas

Eating clean and making healthy choices isn't always easy, especially when we are craving something sweet or salty in between meals. It's ok to indulge your favorite pretzels or chocolate every once in a while, but it's important to make good food choices - even when it comes to your snacks. This especially true for those treats that we snack on while watching TV - it's so easy to overeat while enjoying your favorite TV show (yes, I'm so guilty of doing this!)

But don't worry - snacking (in the right way) can even benefit your healthy lifestyle! Healthy snacks add important nutrients to your diet and can help to prevent overeating at mealtime. Also, they help to keep blood sugar levels steady, which is especially important for diabetics.

Here are my favorite snacks that will complement your healthy lifestyle, without any regrets:

Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
This delicious sandwich provides healthy unsaturated fats, proteins, fiber and complex carbs, which helps you to feel full and give you tons of energy. Also, bananas are full of potassium, which can lower the risk of blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease.

Trail Mix
Trail mix is not only great for hikers and athletes, but also for busy students who need don't have time to pack their lunch and who need a quick energy booster. Make sure you check the nutrient label and serving size, since they tend to be very nutrient dense. You can also make your own trail mix to get the best nutrient potential (tip: choose unsalted nuts, puffed rice, and oat cereals instead of pretzel sticks and cracker bites)

Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard boiled eggs are a great source of protein (6 grams per egg) and healthy fats. They make a great quick snack. One egg has about 80 grams of calories, mostly from healthy fat. Not eating the yolk cuts out more than half of the calories.

Popcorn
Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks! It's easy to pack for on the go and I can munch on it while watching a movie without any regrets. Popcorn has a lot of bulk for it's calories, helping you to fill up without lots of calories. One cup of air-popped popcorn, without butter, has only 30 calories. Depending on how you prepare your popcorn, it can be a great and low-calorie snack.

Frozen Grapes

Frozen grapes are a great healthy and refreshing snack, especially on hot summer days! They are sweet with an almost creamy consistency on the inside. Also, frozen grapes take longer to eat than normal ones, meaning you will likely eat fewer. Satisfy your sweet tooth with this delicious treat!

Hummus

This creamy dip, mainly made up fiber-packing chickpeas, will leave you full and satisfied longer than most other dips. They are also filled with protein (4 grams per 100 grams), making it a delicious and healthy snack. Dip it with your favorite veggies for the most nutritional value!
