Street Art Colombia - Combining History and Beauty

Most people don't realize that Colombia is not only famous for it's coffee and drugs/violence (which isn't such a bad problem anymore), but also for its amazing (street) art. On the internet, you can find several tour guides that lead you to the best places and introduce you to the most creative and famous street artists of Colombia.

Daniel and I have been taking every chance we can get to travel around and use our time in Colombia to really soak in it's beautiful culture. A lot of things aren't new for my husband since he was born here, but for me everything I see and try is something fresh and exciting!

We recently took a trip to Daniel's home town of Sogamoso (Boyaca) to check out some places we hadn't visited yet and I immediately noticed that the city is just as full of graffiti as the capital of Colombia -  Bogota. 

Graffiti in Colombia, especially Bogota, is legal and expresses Colombians youth's outlook on it's culture, politics and people in an extremely creative way. Here, the probably most popular graffiti tour can be booked under bogotagraffiti.com. The tours are in English and the leaders are artists themselves who know what they are talking about. 

The vibrancy and colors of Colombian street art are beautiful , but it's also extremely meaningful. Almost all graffiti tell a story about Colombia's culture, history, and people. The most common topics of Colombian Street Art include social commentary, historical characters, cultural heritage, and a reflection about how we relate to nature in modern times. 

It's incredible how much work, effort and love the artists put into their work and how every graffiti tells an important story. It's truly amazing and worth seeing!
