Recipe: Health-Boosting Apple Kale Smoothie

Nowadays, green smoothies seem to be everywhere, and everybody who cares about health knows about them and has tried at least one recipe. If you haven't, you really need to get started. What works for stars and celebrities definitely also works for us "normal" people. Green smoothies are not just super healthy and nutrition-rich, but also taste amazing!

What's in a green smoothie?
Green smoothies are are full of leafy greens like collard, kale, spinach, celery, parsley and cilantro, and sweet fruits like bananas, apples, peaches, mango, kiwis, pineapple, and berries. The ratio should be 60% greens and 40% fruits, which is why green smoothies - despite what many people think - do not taste like drinking a salad.

Why are they so healthy?
Drinking green smoothies first thing in the morning or throughout the day does not only boost your energy level, but also your immune system. Green smoothies contain more greens than most people usually eat during a whole day. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, dietary fiber, and protein. Drink them to stay healthy and to help weight loss. Also, they make your skin glow like never before!

For the first time, you can start with spinach which has a very light flavor - perfect for anybody who wants to get into drinking green smoothies. This super delicious smoothie is made with kale which has a little stronger taste, but thanks to the banana and apple you will barely notice it! I especially love kale because it's a highly nutritous super food, containing beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin (a carotenoid similar to lutein), calcium and fiber. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants - excellent for making health boosting smoothies.
